GTA SA: Better gun sounds - No rain bug v5.3 by Triangulum
==========================================================
This version includes some tweaked / re-worked sounds from v5.0-v5.2. It also potentially fixes the car horn bug (this is a bug where all car horn sounds would become extremely low-pitched after 5-20 minutes of gameplay).

This pack includes replacements for all firearms as well as explosions.

You can also use a wide variety of alternate sounds I provided. Sounds from previous versions are also available to use as alternates and shouldn't cause any bugs.

You need to replace all of the other sounds in bank_137 (NOT JUST THE GUN SOUNDS!). This is because I cut the duration of most of the other original sounds (such as skydiving, punching, etc) to allow for slightly longer durations for gun sounds (see next section for details).

Refer to this video for a tutorial to replace the weapon sounds manually: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiJiDPUpr98

What is the "rain bug" and how does this fix it?
================================================

The rain will start to sample bits of other audio (katana slashing, flamethrower sounds, clanging, etc) in place of the original rain sound if gun sounds go beyond a certain quality limit. This is a video showing what happens: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=dfAKYOmcBGM#t=100s

Going slightly over this limit will result in "cane swinging" sounds, becoming more and more noticable with higher quality audio until more sounds start to become used in place of rain. Bugged car horn and idle engine sounds may also be a result of going beyond this limit.

Fixing the rain bug requires lowering the frequency and cutting the audio of high quality sounds to match the original files as closely as possible. Most original audio files have a 22050Hz sample rate and around 0.15-0.2 seconds duration. The original four "far shot"/echo/shock wave sounds are each around 1 second long, so I took advantage of them by using new sounds and amplifying them (originals are very quiet), making the overall duration seem much longer except when in interiors.

The main problem with other weapon sound packs is that the duration "limit" is far exceeded by weapon sounds that are often 5-10x longer than the originals (around 1 or 2 seconds) because they use the echo/schock wave sound within the same audio file as the weapon firing sound, while ignoring the actual echo/shock wave sounds.

However, this duration "limit" can be increased with a trick I used for this sound pack, which is to shorten some of the other original sounds (skydiving, punching, etc) to compensate for having longer/higher quality gun sounds. This allows for the duration for many weapons to be extended from 0.15-0.2 secs to 0.3-0.6 secs, as well as being able to raise the sample rate from 22050 to 32000Hz for most sounds... both make a huge difference. (Note that there is no noticable difference between the other sounds I shortened and the originals. When repeated, they will still sound the same or very similar.)

To check if the gun sounds will work without any bugs (besides the rain bug), you can look at the size of the bank_137 folder. The original bank_137 is 0.97MB (1,025,818 bytes), and the "safe zone" for bug-free sounds is around 1,030,000 bytes and under.
